This page contains links to free Ainu language resources currently available on the net. At the moment these resources are rather scarce and are often in Japanese.

In the past, the books of John Batchelor (a scholar of Ainu working around the start of the 20th century) were available online from Google but unfortunately this seems to no longer be the case.

The Saman Ainu Dictionary(浦河アイヌ語辞典)

This large word list (in Japanese) is broken up by topic rather than alphabetically, which can make finding words a challenge. It's intended for use in education.

Chiri Yukie

In the 19 years of her life, Chiri Yukie (知里幸恵)(1903-1922) became an important transcriber of the rapidly diminishing Ainu oral traditions.

Along with her aunt, Kannari Matsu, her younger brother, and the Japanese scholar Kindaichi Kyousuke, she was one of the first non-Westerners to attempt ot record Ainu tradition in a sympathetic light.

Her posthumously published book, Ainu Shinyoushuu(アイヌ神謡集), contains parallel Ainu and Japanese transcriptions of 13 Ainu yukar or oral epic poems.
